Sophie Harris Metalwork and Restoration
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Sophie’s love for historical objects has inspired her career as a qualified metalwork restorer and conservator. Her practises have involved a varied selection of places, working with top London museums as well as private restoration companies. It involves a wide range of specialist techniques.
She is now starting a new personal venture with her specialism is in copper alloys, precious metals and restoration. Objects are brought to the workshop damaged, dirty or in a state of disrepair. They are consciously repaired, reshaped, and cleaned to an antique condition, depending on the client’s requests.
As well as metalwork restoration Sophie still continues to develop her own sculptural metalworking and Contemporary Craft. Some of her techniques are: raising forms and vessels from sheet metal and lost wax casting.
Her work is inspired by the contours of the landscape, by taking casts of textured surfaces she combines the intense textures of macro and micro surface patterns stimulated by everyday sights. They are then developed into one-off sculptural landscape forms. She also makes a range of contemporary Stirling silver jewellery with semi precious stones.
