Alison O’Doherty
Photographer, Metal Etcher, Printer. Taking images from nature and shifting them to make people curious. My work is detailed and simple.
I grew up by the sea and loved its ability to change constantly, nature is the same evolving through the seasons. This ability to change is what attracts me, and I like to explore that in my work.
My photographs are the starting point, I manipulate and adapt the image and etch onto small pieces of metal. They are intended to be initially intriguing, to be unclear, but then revealing, so creating that feeling of understanding and belonging as you recognise the image.
I also like to explore the unexpected views in nature, fungus and bracken have both been the subject of my print making, creating different patterns on fabric.
As an artist I think what I am trying to do with my work is to take a different view from that of the typical observer, to not conform to what is expected, but at the same time creating something striking and unique.
