Art In All Its Glory - Sarah Cook
Sarah’s art is abstract and evocative inspired by the dramatic and wild landscapes that have resonated with her throughout her life, from the rugged mountains of Scotland to the dramatic cliffs of Pembrokeshire. She is passionate about rich colours and textures, and she likes to take an intuitive approach to her art: “I try to embrace uncertainty and to trust the process; it often leads to the most remarkable outcomes.” Experimenting with layers of wax, ink and paint as well as occasionally using blocks of marble as a canvas, much of Sarah’s artwork is three dimensional and freestanding, and some pieces are even backlit so that light glows through her work. Sarah enjoys pushing the boundaries of what is expected of an artist, and loves to explore new concepts, so that her work tells a story, and becomes more than a painting on a wall.
Sarah studied at Manchester Metropolitan University, graduating with a First-Class Honours in Design and Art Direction. After graduating, she moved to Paris to work alongside renowned designer and forecaster guru Lidewij Edelkoort for leading design magazines; View on Colour, InView and Bloom. Sarah now co-owns a successful high-end furniture agency with her husband Simon, and her passion for design is often reflected through her use of vibrant colour and the forms found within her work and her home.
Living on May Hill in Gloucestershire, Sarah spends much of her spare time exploring and photographing the stunning landscape on her doorstep. Emerging themes such as roots, trees and ‘beneath the ground’ have also become very much a part of her new creative journey.
