Deborah Harrison Sculpture
Deborah is an international contemporary stone sculptor.
Deborah began sculpting after discovering she was a reductive carver at an arts festival. Later in life she realised that this was her vocation. She went on to study Fine Art and Stone Masonry before becoming a full-time professional sculptor. Her work has had enquiries from afar a field as Saudi Arabia and she recently sold a piece to a luxury Spa Hotel in Portugal. She has exhibited widely in London: Pall Mall, Sloane Square, St Stephens Walbrook, All Hallows by the Tower and in Norwich, Coventry and Gloucester Cathedrals.
Deborah carves using a technique called 'Carving Direct' which follows the grain, colour and form of the stone. She sculpts until she reaches a kind of skin and the sculpture takes on a life of its own. No stone is ever the same due to its creation, method of extraction and encounter with the sculptor. Every sculpture is unique. Her sculpting practice strives to bring together beauty and meaning. She uses fresh imagery inspired by her faith to stear away from traditional iconography to revisit ancient truths and express hope.
Deborah is a founder member of the Cotswold Sculptors Association. She welcomes commissions and visits to her studio (text her first). Her workshop is based at Gloucester City Works (home of the Gloucester Scrap Store) where she also leads weekend 3D stone carving workshops for the public for those with or without experience and for all levels of ability.
