Georgie Bird - Bird's Pottery
I am an enthusiastic and passionate ceramicist and the owner of Bird’s Pottery, an independent family run business in the heart of the Forest of Dean.
As a practicing artist, I take inspiration from life and the humour that can be seen in many different situations. As well as traditional stoneware mugs, and tableware, I create individual sculptural pieces with their own unique characters and story to tell. I create one-of-a-kind, hand thrown or built pieces and take pride in how they all have their own whimsical twists, are hand painted, some with tattoos, added vintage jewellery, others with characterful expressions or the use of text. I recently created a beautiful set of vases in the form of a ‘Wild Swimming Club’ and a ‘Gang of Pirates’.
After completing a BA Honours in Ceramics and Glass, over time I have taught and worked in several potteries along with exhibiting my own work. I have always had my own studio where I have continued my professional development and journey in this field. My career has included working in the television, film and theatre industry creating props and scenic painting alongside teaching.
At Bird’s Pottery my aim is to empower and engage individuals through ceramics. I currently deliver adult classes and one-off workshops including Potters Wheel Experience, Raku and Hand Building.
