Grace Engel Arts
I have been creating art all my life and exhibiting since I was 18. With a BA (hons) in Fine Art at University of West Of England in Bristol in 1996. In my artistic practice I specialise in portraits. In my own work, for exhibition and print, my subject matter in the most part is semi abstract dreamscapes, often containing figures and references to nature.
I have taught painting and drawing to children and adults of all ages while living in Bristol in the UK and have facilitated several community art projects in schools and through the single parent action network (Span) . The interests that inform my work arise from the wonderful qualities of people and inspired by the city and countryside where I have found myself, living now in Forest of Dean . The organic forms and textures found within nature and elements, and from the city for all the human interaction, the layering of individual histories and journeys, my own and others I have been touched by .
In my portrait work I open to something special in each person I paint or draw and try to convey the character behind my choice of subject , with the emphasis often on the poetry and symbolism of human interaction with each other and the environment. By making an appealing image with some resonance and inner life that goes beyond the superficial. Much of my work is coming from an early enjoyment of art when I was a small child from a family of artists. My wish is to share this, by encouraging my students. And by tailoring each commission together with my clients so that they have personalised art they can resonate and be happy living with.
