Harebell & Bee - Shanna Ludwig
It was a long-time ambition to design with my own-grown flowers. So when we moved to the Forest of Dean in 2018, I set up a cut-flower garden and eventually my focus turned to dried flowers. I love the colours and textures that result from the drying process and how the colours continue to evolve over time.
I work with my dried florals (flowers, seed heads, grasses and foliage) to create decor and installations such as hoops, chandeliers, pictures and clouds. I also undertake wedding floristry and take commissions for bouquets, wreaths and other designs throughout the year.
My garden plays a significant role in my work - it’s the place where I grow nearly all of my materials and is a source of inspiration for what I create. I love being involved in the life processes of my flowers, from sowing through to harvest and drying. I also often use botanicals from my garden to dye ribbons that embellish my floristry.
The garden is a place where I welcome wildlife, creating habitats by leaving areas of the garden to grow in a more nature-focused way. Not only does this make it a richer and more fulfilling place to work, the long grasses, messy edges and wildflower meadow provide inspiration for my dried flower pieces as well.
