Jane Foot Artist

Jane is an Artist who paints with wax: using molten beeswax she builds up layers of wax, pigment and collage, fusing them together with a heat gun or blow torch. This ancient process is called ‘Encaustic’ and stems from the Greek word ‘enkaustikos’, meaning ‘to burn in’. In the winter the molten wax cools way too quickly to work with, so Jane began experimenting by painting with Cold Wax Medium and oils. She equally enjoys working with both mediums.

Working with wax allows for a very physical interaction between artist and piece - incising, scraping back, rebuilding; the end result can be smooth or highly textured, often characterised by an intriguing tactile depth.
