Karen Barthram
I am a mixed media artist based in Chepstow.
I have always been drawn to the world of art and have explored many different mediums over the years. However, I have found my passion lies in creating unique pieces that combine vintage and found objects in collage form.
My work is highly decorative and often features local landscapes. I find inspiration in the natural world around me, and I love incorporating elements that add a sense of history and nostalgia to my practice. I am constantly on the lookout for interesting objects that evoke a memory which I can then incorporate into my work, whether it's an old key, a piece of rusty metal, or repurposing a unique piece of vintage jewellery. They often provide a starting point for my creative process.
I also enjoy using a variety of different materials in my work, including paint, paper, fabric, and other found objects. I love the challenge of combining these disparate materials and creating something that is both visually striking, bespoke and meaningful.
I run very successful mixed media workshops here in Chepstow based around different themes and focusing on different skillsets in each session. Newcomers are welcomed and all abilities welcomed. Please contact me for more details.
In 2022, I had the opportunity to curate a highly successful exhibition at Chepstow Priory. The exhibition was a collaborative effort featuring over 80 artists who showcased their work based on the theme of "Water's Edge". The exhibition was able to raise over £3000.
If you're interested in my work, you can find my pieces available for sale in the Marmalade House in Chepstow, additionally I’m happy to consider commissions.
