Little Orchard Studios - Catherine Hawkridge
Little Orchard Studios sits in the picturesque Wye Valley near to the Gloucestershire/Welsh boarders Under the umbrella title of ‘Little Orchard Studios’, Catherine creates a work within two very different strands, portraiture sketches and paintings and her Weathering series, which features both mixed media painting and alternative process cyanotype photographic pieces.
Weathering is a continually evolving body of work including gallery pieces, private commissions, cards and prints designed to bring joy and calm in a hectic world. Working in a range of media including painting and photography, Catherine is inspired by the beautiful imperfections of the natural world due to aging, inclement weather and general disorder. Subjects often include plants and flowers from her rather overgrown garden which is a wildlife haven with pockets of wild flowers, long grasses and interesting weeds.
Wellbeing is integral to both the outcome and process. Purposeful and accidental marks, spills, flicks and drips combine with unusual and unpredictable techniques and processes, to create pieces full of vibrant, energetic and unexpected moments of colour and texture inspired by the plants and animals of the fields, forests and meadows.
Catherine's ‘In the Forest’ series which combines both the Weathering series of cyanotype prints with more structured animal portraits. Prints feature wildlife from the local country side and her garden visitors.
