Love the Lampshade ​- Julie Lawrence

My lampshades are designed to have a deliberate change of appearance when the light goes on. This occurs either through changes of colour, illusionary textures, or by revealing characters concealed within the layers. My lampshades celebrate classic and vintage shaped frames. Fabrics are then sewn on by hand, employing predominantly traditional techniques. They are designed to be beautiful during daylight hours and to bring surprise, pleasure and function as the light is switched on.

I have made bespoke lampshades using specific frames, fabrics or charactoristics that have sentimental value, or have incorporated left over bits of fabrics from other furnishings or items. All of these elements offer ways to boldly or discreetly personalise these useful household items.

​I have made individual and complementary sets of light-shades and I am open to collaborate with customers, Interior Designers or companies seeking unique or themed products for specific spaces. I always aim to work in ways that deepen both the pleasure of the finished product and the creative process itself.
