Melanie Maguire
As an eclectic artist, I enjoy creating works in many genres and styles – still life, portraiture, animals (mainly horses and dogs), landscapes and flowers - working predominantly in oils. I also use acrylics, watercolours, gouache, oil pastels and india ink, depending on the subject and the mood I'm looking for. When it comes to my mixed media works, all media, found objects, fabric, hardware etc. is fair game!
When painting, I endeavour to bring attention to the visual magic of the world around us, often through dramatic lighting and saturated, bright colour in vibrating hues. I love the visual wonder of flickering between reality and unreality; in that transition zone where the magic of painting resides, allowing the brushstrokes to create an ambivalence between the two.
I've painted all my life, but only recently after moving to the stunningly beautiful Forest of Dean in 2014, I've finally had the time and space to explore my art practice.
