Mo Parker
Having discovered needle felting five years ago, it rapidly became my main past time. I find wool is very tactile to work with, and as there are so many breeds of sheep, that produce such varied textures and colours in their fleece, it gives me the opportunity to create individual pieces.
It’s amazing to see how you can take un-spun wool and turn it into a little sculpture (and sometimes a large one)!
It involves stabbing away at the wool with tiny, barbed needles (which I soon discovered are very sharp) ! I mainly use photographs of animals to work out the designs. They are only for inspiration, and rarely look exactly alike, as you always go off on a tangent, which gives it the individuality. As there are no actual patterns to work from, no two things are ever the same, which is great, as you can always add a quirky element if needed, and this usually happens by accident.
Having found this fascinating craft, I decided to try my hand selling at local craft fairs, and discovered that people love the chance to buy something that has not been mass produced, and they also love to watch the process, so it’s always good to be demonstrating my craft at the same time.
I now sell all over the world, and take needle felting workshops, as it’s always good to share this fascinating craft.
