Rachel Lewis
See Rachel's astonishing, remarkable body of work in the gallery below.
I was born and raised in the Forest of Dean, but like many artists, I take my inspiration from everywhere. I have had severe ME for nearly 20 years now, and art for me, is definitely an escape, as I am unable to see the natural world anymore, so all my references are from photographs and my imagination. I am completely bedbound without any quality of life, and have to live in almost complete silence and darkness. All of my artwork is created from my bed in very low light. It has only been this past year that I have been well enough to develop it further and to start to sharing my artwork.
I work in a wide range of media; oil pastel, soft pastel, watercolour, acrylics, charcoal and have recently started experimenting with oils. I like to be experimental with my style of painting, and do not feel happy conforming to one particular style, so I paint in the style of whatever is motivating me on that particular day. I also love painting every subject matter possible, including abstracts, still life, portraits and landscapes. However, my work is not for sale.
I also enjoy glass engraving, jewellery making, resin casting, (although I had to give that up after an allergic reaction) using air dry clay, clock making and card making.
