Sharon’s paintings are inspired by nature, be it botanical forms, an endless horizon, or the rugged coastlines of the UK. Having moved to the village of Newnham on Severn in the Forest of Dean she is excited to explore these new experiences and landscapes of both river and forest. Whilst developing her portfolio Sharon additionally hopes to open a small High St Gallery that can showcase others work as well as her own.
Sketching on location, noticing the shapes patterns and textures the artist attempts to capture, through the sensory medium of paint, the mood of the place or a moment in time. “I attempt to grasp the feeling of a place before it disintegrates allowing the painting to become a metaphor for the lived experience. Sharon paints in Acrylics, Oils and a variety of mediums. Working on both canvas and wooden panels she paints intuitively allowing the painting to develop slowly but attempting to capture the energy or light she experienced when in the landscape. “I build up layers in paint and drawn marks until a rich texture evolves and the composition is ready to be refined”
After a career in Sales and Marketing, living overseas and raising a family Sharon decided to return to full time education. Having graduated in 2016 with a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art, she was honoured to have been shortlisted for the National Graduate award and gain representation with London based art consultants Artiq. Exhibiting widely, Sharon has works held in both private and public collections and has developed a loyal collector base. Sharon has taught adult learners at the University of Southampton and also run life drawing workshops for Secondary School pupils, whilst occasionally running residential painting workshops for both the beginner and more experienced artist. In addition Sharon is an Associate Artist with Chapel Arts Studios (CAS) which has a collaborative, experimental and community focused ethos.
