Julie Sullivan - Watercolour Puddles
A move to the heart of the Forest of Dean in 2016 dropped me into a world full of inspiration that I have since loved to capture, firstly in watercolour and recently in a range of mixed media to capture my fascination with all things feathered and furred.
Sleep, rest and daily life are no barriers to ideas or fragments of ideas, sometimes they are stored for weeks/months/years but others are spilled onto paper immediately and spontaneously when time is on my side and this is my most favourite way to create, to not stop but keep pushing until an idea comes into being.
Discovering a variety of handmade rag papers available locally, cotton and linen, has allowed me to visit ideas that allow for a looser style with pencils and gouache and to go big! As I type this at the start of a new year, a time of new beginnings, a few pieces are whirling in my head/have been started/finished already, it is a time to regrow and as my confidence has grown so have the amount of creatures that fill the beautiful coloured and textured papers I use.
I create at home in Ruspidge and visitors to Urchins Gallery in Ross-on Wye, will see works in progress when I am there.
Appointments to my home studio can be booked with prior notice and are very welcome. These are a very good excuse to have it tidy for five minutes!
Originals, prints, cards and homeware are all available from Urchins Gallery and prints and cards online.
