Niki Kent
I’ve always been inspired by the grandeur of the natural world and my creative response is processed with an attitude of gratitude and wonder. Art for me has always provided an escape into a playful world of make-believe where my imagination is free to roam and I am open to encounter new possibilities. When I am fully absorbed in the act of creating, I feel fully alive and fully at home!
Examining the natural world from different perspectives; from space or under a microscope, ignites my curiosity and a need to express the emotive qualities of colour, form and texture which become themes in themselves to translate experience and memory.
An intuitive working process takes me on a journey into a new world, of intrigue and wonder, where a balanced relationship between light, colour, form and pattern must exist. I combine drawing, painting and printmaking; making mixed media works that allow the very materials and processes I use to become an integral part of the working process. I enjoy watching what happens when I am fully engaged in the act of making art, in the absence of any conviction of its validity; simply delighting in my discoveries along the way.
I'm currently embarking on a three years Masters degree training to be a registered Art Psychotherapist and my creative practice is being inspired and influenced by the theory and practice inherent in these studies.
