DelARTful Designs by Sarah Delahoy
I am a printmaker working from my print studio in the grounds of my home on Harrow Hill in the Forest of Dean, where I also run printmaking workshops.
My prints are mostly created from either linocut, collagraph and drypoint and I also teach all three techniques at my workshops. Linocut is a process where sharp tools are used to carve away part of the flat surface of a block of linoleum. After carving, the remaining surface is inked with a roller and printed on my relief press. To create my collagraph printing plates I add marks and textures to a piece of mountboard, like a collage, and a drypoint is created by scratching a design into a piece of plastic. Both of these processes are then inked using the intaglio method and printed on my etching press.
As well as original handprinted, limited edition prints, I also print my designs onto cards, gifts and homewares.
My current work is inspired by the natural world with a focus on wildlife and botanical forms, but I also like to explore retro imagery from my childhood.
I enjoy the endless possibilities of creating a printing block or plate and the magic and excitement of pulling the first print never fades.
